OVERVIEW OF CONSERVATION LANDS IN INDIAN RIVER COUNTY
Our program this month will be on the conservation lands that have been purchased by Indian River County using the funding from the environmental bond fund that was passed by voters in 1991. Beth Powell is the Conservation Land Manager for Indian River County and will give us an overview of the properties that have been purchased.NATIONAL PUBLIC LANDS DAY
As you may know, the county has spent most of the money from this bond and is considering the need for another bond for future purchases. Come see what has been acquired so far and decide for yourself whether these properties and others like them are worth saving - we think that you will be impressed and amazed! "Wild Florida" is one of the top tourist attractions in our state!
The meeting will be Tuesday, September 23, 7:30 PM at the library in Sebastian. All are welcome and refreshments will be served following the program.
Appropriately enough, this month the nation celebrates "National Public Lands Day" on Saturday, September 20. The day celebrates "
the promise of the Civilian Conservation Corps, the 'tree army' that exemplified land stewardship from 1933-1942, to preserve and protect America's natural heritage."DUES REMINDER
National Public Lands Day is hosted by the National Environmental Education & Training Foundation
(www.neetf.org) and their partner - Take Pride in AmericaÒ (www.takepride.gov). There will be events around the country on the 20th that will "
focus on restoring habitat on public lands, providing homes for diverse species of plants and animals." The motto of Nation Public Lands Day is
"It's your land, lend a hand."

October is membership renewal time. If you recall we consider memberships to expire at the end of September every year. This saves us the time and expense of having to invoice everyone individually.
If you initially joined and paid dues between April 1 and September 30, we credit your membership through until October 1 in your second year of membership. You will notice that the date following your last name on the mailing label is the month/year in which our records reflect that your membership either did or will expire.
As always we are human and subject to making mistakes. If you feel the date is not correct or have a question about your membership, please call our treasurer Shirley Kilkelly at 772-589-5062 or Tim Glover at 772-589-0636, or send us an email at: firstname.lastname@example.org. You can also write to us at the address on this newsletter - please include a phone number or email address where you can be reached.
Occasionally we send out emails to our members with information that is timely, or items we believe will be of interest to you. We also include reminders for our upcoming public meetings. If you are interested in being included on our email updates list, be sure to include your email address on the membership form. And be sure and keep us up to date with any changes by using the "Membership Updates" page on our website.
