FSSR Newsletter September 2005

Our speaker this month is Ed Garland, Regional Communications Coordinator for the St. Johns River Water Management District (SJRWMD).  Ed will discuss some of the initiatives the District is developing to meet the growing thirst for the 18 counties in their jurisdiction. They are examining everything from increased water conservation to expanding use of surface water as a potable water source, to studies of collocating desalination plants with power plants along the Indian River Lagoon.
The WMDs (that's Water Management District!) are required to develop such plans to project water supply sources and needs for the next 20 years and are required to review them every 5 years.
We will also have a brief presentation by Jim Egan, Executive Director of the Marine Resources Council.  Jim wants to bring us up to date on the MRCs efforts to acquire properties along the South Prong of the St. Sebastian River for conservation.
The meeting will be held at the North Indian River County Library in Sebastian on Tuesday, September 27 at 7:30 PM and all are welcome to attend.

October is membership renewal time.  If you recall, all of our memberships expire at the end of September each year.  This saves us the time and expense of having to invoice everyone individually.
If you initially joined and paid dues between April 1 and September 30, we credit your membership through until October 1 in your second year of membership.  You will notice that the date following your last name on the mailing label is the month in which our records reflect that your membership either did or will expire.  If you feel the date is not correct, or have a question about your membership, please call our treasurer Shirley Kilkelly at 772-589-5062 or Tim Glover at 772-589-0636, or send an email to us at the address above.  You can also write to us at the address on the back page - please include a phone number or email address where you can be reached.
Occasionally we send out emails to our members with information that is timely, or items we believe will be of interest to you.  We also include reminders for our upcoming public meetings.  If you are interested in being included on our email updates list, be sure to include your email address on the membership form.  And be sure and keep us up to date with any changes by using the "Membership Updates" page on our website.
Additionally, current members can help us save cost and paper by subscribing to the electronic version of our newsletter, if you have access to a computer.  The current issue of the newsletter gets posted in the "Members Only" section of our website about a week before you receive the paper copy in the mail.  Log in, take a look, and if you like the online version, let us know and we will notify you by email each month instead of mailing you the newsletter!
We thank you all for your continued support!
