 FSSR newsletter - September 2007

Margie Reynolds is the first Environmental Planner for the City of Sebastian.  She will give us a presentation this month to let us know about her job responsibilities with the city.  She will also give a presentation on what we as citizens of the community can do to help improve the situation with stormwater runoff.  There are many things that Sebastian is doing as a city to address stormwater, but there are also things we can do as property owners that help out too.  She will be talking about the use of rain barrels and "rain gardens".  These can be a very useful and beautiful addition to your yard!
The importance of stormwater runoff is becoming greater every day as more areas become developed.  As you will read in our "What's Hot" article inside, it will take on greater importance too as the state begins to address the "Total Maximum Daily Load" (TMDL) requirements of the Clean Water Act, in our area.
The meeting will be on Tuesday, September 25, 7:30 PM at the North Indian River County Library in Sebastian.  All are welcome and invited to attend.

October is membership renewal time. We run all memberships from October through September each year.  If you initially joined and paid dues between April 1 and September 30, we credit your membership through until October 1 in your second year of membership.  The date following your last name on the mailing label of our newsletter is the month in which our records reflect that your membership either did or will expire.  If you feel the date is not correct, or have a question about your membership, please call our treasurer Sherry Shipley at 772-589-4979 or Tim Glover at 772-589-0636; or send an email or write to us at the addresses in this newsletter.  Please include a phone number or email address where you can be reached.
Thanks again to all of you for your support!

This past year we held a raffle for a beautiful model canoe.  The raffle drawing was held in May and the winner of the model canoe was Andrea Povinelli - congratulations!  Thanks to everyone who participated in our raffle.  We are always looking for ways to raise money so let us know if you have any fund raising ideas.  We also can always use more volunteer help.  If you are interested in getting involved, we are especially looking for someone to do publicity and merchandising.  We could also use someone who is interested in being an historian for the group.
